Ankle Pain Therapy in Pacific Palisades

Ankle pain affects thousands of people around the world every year. It makes standing or walking for work more difficult, enjoy some sporting activities, and usually affects your mobility. Alleviating such pain takes invested and regular care. One of the possible treatments that can be very practical is physical therapy.

What are the Goals of Pain Therapy?

Physical therapy is a type of treatment that applies stretches, exercises, and other techniques to improve your limb function. It also considers how movement in one part affects your limb and body function and can be utilized to relieve the symptoms of a wide range of physical health conditions. Physical therapy for ankle pain heals the lower limbs with the aim of relieving pain and boosting your overall foot functions.

Treatment Exercises for Your Ankle Pain

The special treatment exercises for your ankle pain will vary on your health needs and the root cause of your pain. Our team at Ankle Pain Therapy Pacific Palisades will assess your lower limbs and identify what would best benefit you. Based on the diagnosis, we can work with you to devise a treatment plan and schedule for physical therapy. Below are a few common exercises for ankle pain:

  • Ice Massage. Get a frozen water bottle or tennis ball and apply it on your ankle. Press against it and gently roll it back and forth, massaging your ankle gently.
  • Calf Stretches. Place your hands flat on a wall and put one foot backward around six inches. Keep that knee straight and your heel on the ground. Lunge toward the wall on your front knee until your calf is stretched. Bear for a few seconds, then loosen up and repeat with both knees arched.
  • Plantar Stretch. Take a seat with a one-foot hold up on your knee. Bend that foot and slowly pull your toes back toward the front part of the leg below the knee.
  • Towel Compress. Place a towel on the ground in front of your seat. Sit and step your bare foot on the towel. Anchoring the cloth with one foot, have the toes on your other foot to grip and compress the towel closer.
